QUALITY
Let us start out by saying the following…buying a Twillory shirt is a no brainer. For someone looking to get started on building a wardrobe, you would be hard pressed to find a better deal in the online RTW shirting category. You’re getting a lot of shirt for what other companies charge about $30 more, in addition to shipping charges. Some have compared them to large retailer Charles Tyrwhitt, who frequently runs online sales for their shirts. While we can see similarities, Twillory is giving you a more curated range of shirts and style that essentially works with everything in both casual and business wardrobes. Sometimes having a million choices doesn’t mean a shirt brand is superior. Their fabrics aren’t top of the line in terms of feel but they hold up after heavy use and frequent dry cleanings. You may have trouble deciphering one of these shirts from some of the higher end men’s shirting brands on the market.
DESIGN
Let’s be honest, saying these are as good as a bespoke, hand-made, shirts is just false.. You’re going to notice that some of these shirts are made with a thinner material. This might be a deal breaker for some, but might work for people looking for a shirt to layer with, or for guys who sweat through thick shirts. One of their top features is their shirt buttons. They’ve chosen to use mother of pearl, which is a nice detail that most companies won’t pay attention to. The downside to this luxury means you’re on the hook if they happen to break after washing or dry cleaning. Another of Twillory’s touted designed features is their placement of the second shirt button from the top. This feature is particularly present when leaving the top button unbuttoned. Not everyone wears a tie with their dress shirts, so it’s nice to know these details are taken into account. They offer 3 options of collar types: cutaway, spread, and button-down, as well as 2 options for cuffs: button or French cuff. You’ll see in the following images just how their cutaway looks with a tie, as well as on its own.
Overall, we only found one TINY problem with these shirts. Ok, technically, we’re being overly critical, but this is a honest review. Along with your new Twillory shirt comes a small paper sleeve with FREE Twillory etched collar stays. While this is a wonderful gesture it is poor quality, in our opinion. The quality of these stays is just cheap. Collar stays are meant to anchor your shirt collars, so that you don’t have floppy or unsupported collars under your suit jacket or blazer. We tried using some small earth magnets to assist the stays in keeping a crisp collar, but because the metal (which must be thinly plated) no magnetization was present to keep them in place. Again, a very minuscule problem, but for the price of $79 dollars, you can’t ask for skirt steak and expect prime rib. We still think the world of these Twillory shirts, but addressing this small detail could push Twillory from just another shirt company to the only shirts in you keep in your closet.
THE STAYS THAT THEY GIVE YOU FOR FREE ARE DIFFERENT FROM THE ONES THEY SELL. WE HAVE NOT TRIED THESE OUT. FROM THE REVIEWS, THEY ARE WELL REGARDED.
FIT
With most RTW shirt brands, shirt measurements are hit and miss. Some skew too European, (like box retailers Zara and Topman) while others cater to an older, more classic, and larger demographic (Brooks Brothers, Charles Tyrwhitt). We would say that Twillory covers a range of sizes with their shirts. See their sizing chart HERE. By selecting your shirt by neck size you should be able to find the right shirt. Beware: while offering 2 fits, tailored or traditional, we purchased the tailored fit but found that it’s still a bit large. With our skinny, athletic build, we needed to shoot over to our local tailor to slim it down a drop more. This was strictly based on personal preference.
NOTE: These shirts were purchased in early 2015. As with all young companies, shirt sizing tends to evolve with each coming year. Make sure contact Twillory to really see which size will fit best.
PRICE
Regularly, shirts retail for about $99, however, if you follow Twillory on any social media, you’ll be able to catch their always recurring promotion codes that offer shirts around $79 plus free shipping. Even better, they offer even bigger sales around holidays, especially Father’s Day, Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Christmas. You’ll find great offers like 2 shirts for $89 or 4 for $169. These are great prices for men’s shirts.
OVERALL
Overall, we’re impressed! Buying shirts from Twillory is a great investment for any guy who’s looking for quality, great-fitting shirts to bolster their ever-growing wardrobe. It’s not just their curated collection of men’s shirts, but their user-friendly online store really puts them ahead of some of the bigger companies in shirting. The continual free shipping and free returns is great. They’re not trying to waste your time or money. They’ve also now expanded their product offering with both ties and non-iron shirts, which are said to be some of the safest in the industry. Lastly, Twillory’s dedication to giving back is encouraging to their customers when buying their shirts. They offer a free label and envelope to send your old shirts to REPURPOSE, a charity giving back to guys struggling to find jobs. Giving back is never a bad thing!
TLDR: THESE SHIRTS ARE A GREAT BUY, ON PAR WITH MOST MID-TIER RETAILERS. BEST TIME TO BUY IS WHEN THEY HAVE BIG PROMOTIONS.
