Happy New Year…and if you really celebrated, welcome to your first hangover of the New Year! Lets face it, you’re not a spring chicken anymore and you’re probably feeling like a truck just hit you. Enter the so-called “world’s most complex cocktail” to save the day from the grasp of the couch, The Bloody Mary. The Bloody, as it’s commonly called, is a cocktail beloved by people for its erroneous reputation to cure hangovers due to its combination of a heavy vegetable base (to settle the stomach), salt (to replenish lost electrolytes) and alcohol (to relieve head and body aches). However, even though only rest, water, and electrolyte replacement can truly cure a hangover, it still remains a fixture at all the most popular breakfast and brunch spots.

Everyone has a different recipe for a perfect Bloody Mary. Preferences of alcohol, garnishes, and mixture of spices make everyone’s slightly different. My family grows a lot of vegetables so I like to use fresh ingredients, such as fresh tomatoes and fresh ground horseradish. Next the kicker, Old Bay Seasoning. In my opinion, there is no better blend of spices. Add it to the mix or if it too much, lightly rim the glass. Follow the recipe below or try your own blend of spices until you’re satisfied. Cheers.

SPICY OLD BAY BLOODY MARY MIX

{2} - 14.5 ounce of organic diced tomatoes
1 -  cup water
1 1/2 -  tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce
1 - teaspoon freshly ground horseradish
2 - teaspoons Tabasco
Juice from 1 lemon {approximately 5 tablespoons}
Juice from 1 lime {approximately 3 tablespoons}
2 - teaspoons of fresh ground sea salt
1 - teaspoon of ground celery seed
2 – 3 teaspoons of Old Bay Seasoning
Generous pinch of fresh cracked black pepper

Combine all the ingredients into a blender; pulse until the mix is at desired texture.

Garnish with a stalk of celery or whatever else you can stick in your drink. (Try bacon, cubed cheddar, or pickles)
